A Note from Michael...
I have always wanted to do more than write a self-help book. I want to convey a life philosophy and a brand that sends this powerful message:
"I love myself just the way I am,
and I am striving to reach my personal potential."
One day, while at my favorite coffee shop in Venice, CA, I was searching for a character that represented the duality of our struggle with gruntness and our search for excellence... An "ambassador of greatness" that people could really relate to and love.
Sitting at my favorite table in a corner with a floor-to-ceiling window view, I was sketching "grunt" and "greatness" figures when I looked outside and saw a guy walking his English bulldog. My body instantly broke out in chills. In one second, I knew that the English bulldog would be the FGTG Ambassador!
At first glance, a bulldog might be considered an ugly dog. He is a crumpled-faced, chubby, heavy-breathing, snorting, snoring, lumbering, sleeper of a dog. Each of these characteristics spells disaster, but when you put them all together, somehow they make up a proud, strong, happy, and beautiful animal.

His Name Is No Accident
I took great care in naming our ambassador Griffin, which literally means "body of a lion, head and wings of an eagle." Griffin, or Griff for short, personifies the need to incorporate balance in our lives. Symbolically, he blends the bulldog's lion-like traits of strength, power, charisma, and ferocity with its eagle-like traits of vision, loftiness, and ability to soar.

Visuals, like stories, make great teachers and are often what we most remember. Sure, Griffin was created to provide some comic relief, but more importantly, he was created to anchor you to the stories and principles of the book.
