Michael's Story

A Letter from Michael - His Story

In 1996, I was sitting outside Starbucks in Marina Del Rey, California with my friend and colleague Ken. At 28 years old, I was one of the youngest country club General Managers in the country. This Los Angeles area club is one of the largest in the US. My responsibilities included overseeing 100+ employees, 1800 members, a $15M budget, and $150M worth of real estate. I had a condo in Brentwood, a great car, dined at the best restaurants, golfed, traveled all over the country, and was in the presence of people you'd recognize by first name only. I was living the high-life.

Or so it seemed...

Something had been gnawing at me for months. During our conversation, I said to Ken, "There must be more to life than this!" He, of course, agreed. After all, from his perspective and that of the outside world, things looked really terrible. (Yeah right!)

Underneath the façade, I was unfulfilled, unsettled, and unhappy. I was so stressed that I was convinced I would not make it to my 30th birthday. Late at night, as I lie awake in bed, I could hear and feel my heart ready to burst from my chest. My life and work were not congruent with my passion, my vocation, or my calling. I was overweight and overworked. I was lonely and out of control... I was not living the life I had imagined.

It was time to make a change.

I had always been a voracious reader of self-help. I was addicted to watching motivational speakers and loved speaking to groups. For as long as I can remember, I dreamed of speaking, writing, and inspiring people to "live the life of their dreams."

But I wasn't doing it.

I had an epiphany that day at Starbuck's. Over the next few months, I formulated my plan to finally live the life of my OWN dreams and dedicate myself to helping others do the same. Within a year, I quit my job to become a personal development coach, speaker, and writer.

And it's been bliss since.

Yeah, right again!...These last seven years have been quite a journey... The ups and downs of creating and building a business are numbing. If you've read my book, you are aware of my struggles in pursuit of greatness. Yet I wouldn't change it for the world. The learning only further solidifies my commitment to myself and to the clients we serve. We were put on this earth for a reason. I feel it is our responsibility to dig deep and find what that purpose is, then to spend the rest of our lives "living that life that we imagine." I am dedicated to helping you do so.
